A Bank Holiday Full of Umami: Japanese Mayo Tasting at Fortnum & Mason

This Bank Holiday Sunday, we were back at Fortnum & Mason, sharing spoonfuls of our signature Japanese-style mayonnaise with curious shoppers, food lovers and flavour explorers from around the world.

A Taste of Japan in the Heart of London

Our tasting table at Fortnum’s Piccadilly store became a vibrant hub of conversation and discovery. From intrigued tourists to loyal locals, over 100 people stopped by to try our MSG-free, gluten-free mayo, crafted in the UK with inspiration from Japanese culinary tradition.

Many were familiar with Japanese mayo through iconic brands like Kewpie. For others, it was a first-time experience. What they all had in common was a love for bold, balanced flavour and a curiosity for something new.

“I didn’t expect it to be this creamy and rich,” one visitor said. “It’s got that umami depth, but it feels lighter and fresher.”

Why Tastings Matter

We believe that flavour is best experienced, not just described. That’s why we love being on the shop floor meeting people, answering questions and watching their reactions as they taste our mayo for the first time.

It’s not just about selling bottles. It’s about sharing our story, one spoonful at a time.

What Makes Our Mayo Special

Our Japanese-style mayo is:

  • MSG-free & gluten-free
  • Made in the UK with British ingredients
  • Inspired by Japanese culinary techniques
  • Versatile enough for sushi, sandwiches, salads and more

Thanks to Fortnum & Mason’s team on the day who were incredibly helpful and accommodating, we’re proud to be stocked alongside some of the UK’s most exciting food innovators.

Looking Ahead

We’ll be back at Fortnum’s for more tastings soon. So if you missed us this time, keep an eye on our socials for the next date. And if you’re craving that umami hit now, you can grab a bottle online or in-store.
